Billing securely and electronically – the PKI project

Secure billing and data management are no longer optional add-ons — they are essential to smooth day-to-day business operations. An increasing number of companies are recognizing that traditional billing and data management solutions are slow, difficult to track, and insufficient when it comes to security.

Objective of the case study

The PKI solution from EDITEL Hungary provides a straightforward yet highly effective answer to these challenges. With this advanced technology, companies can execute billing processes that are fast, secure, and fully authenticated, while reducing error potential and increasing overall business efficiency. If you are looking for a solution that ensures seamless digital communication and the highest standards of data protection, this case study offers valuable insights into how such an approach can be implemented in practice.

This case study illustrates how — with the support of EDITEL Hungary — an advanced PKI solution was successfully and seamlessly integrated during the merger of AutoWallis and Nelson, elevating digital data exchange and communication to a new level within the organization. It outlines the key project phases, highlights the results achieved, and demonstrates the advantages of EDITEL Hungary’s tailored solutions in a professional context. Beyond the technological aspects, it also underscores how clear communication and close collaboration played a decisive role in the project’s success.

AutoWallis is a dynamically growing corporate group with the clear ambition of becoming a leading car dealership and mobility service provider in Central and Eastern Europe. Its roots go back to 1990, when the Wallis Group began building its investment portfolio. Since then, AutoWallis has grown into one of the largest Hungarian-owned investment holdings.

The company’s activities focus on the sale of new and used vehicles and spare parts, complemented by short- and long-term car rental, fleet management, and car-sharing services. Its strategic direction centers on selective growth, expanding retail and distribution activities while leveraging synergies within the group. By 2030, AutoWallis aims to become a regional market leader in automotive sales and mobility services, driven by efficient operations and high-quality service offerings.

The strategic importance of acquiring Nelson Fleet Management

For AutoWallis, acquiring Nelson Fleet Management was a key strategic milestone that significantly expanded its service portfolio and strengthened its market position. With the integration of Nelson, the mobility division now covers three core areas: fleet management, car sharing, and rental services.

Nelson’s fleet management expertise enabled AutoWallis to offer comprehensive mobility solutions within a single value chain, while optimizing internal processes and increasing efficiency. The acquisition also closed a previous gap in the portfolio by adding long-term rental services. As a result, AutoWallis can now provide end-to-end mobility solutions, from fleet management to short- and long-term rentals — maximizing both operational efficiency and business potential.

EDITEL’s PKI solution in practice: teamwork and project management

EDITEL Hungary’s expert team successfully implemented the joint PKI integration for AutoWallis and Nelson, significantly enhancing the security and efficiency of data exchange processes. Close communication and precise feedback loops between the teams at EDITEL Hungary and AutoWallis ensured that the project progressed smoothly and without disruption. Another critical component was establishing AutoWallis’s central brand identity for Nelson, enabling both companies to operate under a unified appearance and a shared database. Below is an overview of the key project steps and EDITEL Hungary’s contribution to the successful outcome.

Data assessment, requirements definition, and brand transition – led by Gábor Hernádi

The initial project phase was led by Gábor Hernádi, Senior Key Account Manager at EDITEL, who ensured that customer requirements and brand-transition needs were clearly defined and documented. During the integration of AutoWallis and Nelson, it was essential to centralize the PKI solution and standardize customer data in line with AutoWallis’s new corporate brand. In this phase, the EDITEL team:

  • Analyzed data structures and formats to ensure seamless data flows
  • Mapped business processes to align the PKI solution with both organizations
  • Prepared the brand transition, enabling unified logos, templates, and brand identity for Nelson in accordance with AutoWallis’s corporate guidelines

System preparation and testing – technical expertise by Attila Sipos and András Kővári

Technical implementation was led by Attila Sipos, Junior Project Manager, and András Kővári, Senior Technical Consultant. Attila focused on developing the Digital Archive, ensuring consistent operation across the central databases of Nelson and AutoWallis. András Kővári ensured data synchronization and compatibility with AutoWallis’s Navision ERP system via submIT, EDITEL’s proprietary software solution. During this phase:

  • System interfaces and connection points were established to guarantee automated, secure data transmission
  • PKI-based encryption and authentication were implemented to secure and validate every transaction
  • Extensive testing was carried out using simulated data to verify system performance prior to go-live

Training, support, and project completion – with Attila Jánosházi and Ákos Pressing

Attila Jánosházi, B2B Consultant at EDITEL, led the training phase, ensuring that users could quickly adapt to both the new brand environment and the updated system processes. In the final phase, Ákos Pressing, Operations and Technical Support specialist, joined the project to ensure that implementation remained on schedule — even during the summer holiday period. This final stage included:

  • Comprehensive user training, with detailed explanations of system functionality and benefits
  • Ongoing support, ensuring prompt and professional responses to all user inquiries
  • A flexible problem-solving approach, enabling smooth project completion despite seasonal constraints

Before and after: the impact of automation

Prior to implementation, billing processes at both companies were largely manual — time-consuming and prone to errors. The PKI solution introduced by EDITEL fundamentally transformed this setup. Automation now enables faster, more accurate billing workflows by eliminating manual steps. This not only saves time and resources but also significantly reduces the risk of human error. The result is a process that is both faster and more reliable.

Unified data: centralized brand and customer database

As part of Nelson’s integration into AutoWallis, EDITEL transformed the existing systems into a centralized brand and data structure, merging customer databases and simplifying daily administration. The PKI solution not only connected two previously separate systems but also supported the establishment of a consistent, centrally managed brand identity, enabling transparent and efficient customer management.

System flexibility: integration with IFS

By integrating EDITEL’s PKI solution with the IFS business system, AutoWallis further elevated its data management capabilities. The solution operates seamlessly within the new environment, demonstrating its flexibility and system independence. Data exchange is secure and standardized. Invoices are available not only in PDF and XML formats, but also include related attachments — such as delivery confirmations or repair documentation — which can be transmitted and received digitally.

Sustainable digitalization: handling paper-based requests

The new digital setup ensures that every invoice is stored digitally in the EDITEL Digital Archive. At the same time, paper-based invoices received externally are digitized and uploaded into the system. This approach guarantees a consistent and sustainable billing process, meeting digitalization goals without excluding paper-based input where required.

AutoWallis on working with EDITEL

“EDITEL’s team not only executed the project with precision, but also raised questions we hadn’t initially considered,” says Péter Farkas, CEO of Nelson. “This foresight — combined with their constant availability — made the collaboration exceptionally smooth.”

Key benefits highlighted during the collaboration included:

  • Proactive support: EDITEL’s team anticipated challenges and proposed solutions that significantly contributed to successful implementation and day-to-day operation
  • Flexibility and availability: EDITEL’s experts were consistently responsive and adaptable to evolving requirements
  • Precision: Thorough, accurate execution ensured reliable PKI operations and error-free document processing

Final summary

This case study offers valuable insights not only for EDITEL, but also for any organization planning a PKI integration or seeking to further develop existing digital systems. The project clearly demonstrated how thorough data analysis, careful testing, and comprehensive user support contribute to seamless operations and sustainable competitive advantage.

EDITEL’s PKI solution delivers efficiency, transparency, and accuracy across industries. EDITEL remains committed to making these benefits accessible to its clients — supporting the development of secure, streamlined, and future-ready business processes.
