General information

Spain starts the countdown to mandatory B2B e-Invoicing

The final piece has fallen into place. With Orden HAC/1028/2026 in force, B2B e-Invoicing timetable in motion, and the first deadline is now just one year away.

Two compliance dates

The obligation will be introduced in two phases:

  • 6 October 2027: businesses and professionals whose volume of operations exceeded EUR 8 million in the previous calendar year.
  • 6 October 2028: all other businesses and professionals.

The public solution managed by the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) must be available by 6 August 2027, at least two months before the first mandate takes effect.

What the new model means for your systems

For many businesses, compliance will not mean replacing existing EDI connections. It will mean extending them to meet Spain’s new requirements.

Organizations should ensure that their systems support:

  • invoices in an accepted structured format;
  • a copia fiel sent to AEAT when invoices are exchanged through a private platform;
  • invoice status messages, including rejection and payment;
  • connections with trading partners using other private platforms.

It is also important to keep three areas separate: B2B e-Invoicing under Crea y Crece, VAT reporting through SII, and rules for invoicing software under SIF / VERI*FACTU.

For international businesses, one integration layer can help manage these processes without adding manual work or separate workflows for Spain.

The deadline is also an integration deadline

The first businesses must comply in one year. They should now map their invoice flows, identify the systems that issue and receive invoices, and decide how AEAT will fit into their existing architecture.

Smaller businesses have more time but face the same questions. Spain’s model is built around interoperable exchange, structured status messages and a public reporting layer.
